Acumen Clinic is focused on diagnosis and treatment of patients with knee pain and instability. Patients need a correct diagnosis, which can be found based on the way the knee was injured and confirmed with an exam.
Knee Pain
The main issues that cause knee pain are:
- Arthritis
- Meniscus Tears
- Sprains and Strains of the knee ligaments
- Tendinopathy in the Patellar and Quadriceps Tendons as well as other tendons
- Loose Bodies in the Knee Joint
There are many treatment options for knee pain, and deciding on the best path is often a confusing process. At Acumen Health, we spend time to make sure all the options for treating knee pain are clear and all questions are answered.
Instability in the knee often becomes a problem after an injury. Patients with instability often describe giving way in the knee or feel that they aren’t able to trust their knee.
Instability is often related to:
- Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) Tears
- Posterior Cruciate Ligament (PCL) Tears
- Patella (Knee Cap) Dislocations
- Patello-Femoral Pain (which causes giving way due to pain)
Treating instability involves restoring the architecture of the knee. There are some options for the repair of ligaments (particularly the ACL which is performed by Acumen Health) but the most common treatment for ligament tears is reconstruction with tendon or a ligament from another part of the body.
Biologics in the Treatment of Knee Pain
Biologic treatments like platelet-rich plasma are used to treat some diagnoses that cause knee pain. If you are interested in these treatments for knee pain click here for more information.
